Procedure for Continued Use of Large-scale Computing System in FY2025
The Interdisciplinary Large-Scale Computing System was upgraded in April 2025.
For the procedure for continued use of Large-scale Computing System for the fiscal year 2025, please note the following.
To continue to use Large-scale Computing System, the users need to apply for a user number and additional services.
If you do not apply by the deadline, you will not be able to use services of the Center from April.
The application period for continued use of Large-scale Computing System for FY2025 is as follows.
April 8, 2025 (Tuesday) – April 25, 2025 (Friday) 15:00
*Please note that your payment manager also needs to complete the approval of your application within this period.
The following can be applied for during this period.
・User number
The basic fee will be revised to 12,000 yen (formerly 12,960 yen) for general users and 2,000 yen (formerly 2,160 yen) for students.
Also, the services available with the basic fee are as follows.
1) The use of application server
2) Home area (supercomputer storage)
* In the new system, the resource group for supercomputer trial use and debugging is not included in the services available with the basic fee. Additional tokens (additional services) will be required.
Cloud service
1) The use of Jupyter computing environment
2) Cloud storage
* For those using HPCI/JHPCN projects: If you do not plan to use the application server, you do not need to pay the basic fee. When continuing your billing number application for additional services, please confirm whether payment of the basic fee is required.
・Cloud storage (Nextcloud)
There is no change to the capacity available with the basic fee (general: 1TB, students: 100GB), but the usage fee for additional services has been revised to 800 yen (500 yen) per month per 1TB, or 9,600 yen (6,000 yen) per year.

The service start dates for the fiscal year 2025 are as follows. By applying for continuation of your user number, not only will your cloud storage data from services starting in April be carried over to the next fiscal year, but also data from the supercomputer and application servers that start service from July.

* Exceed onDemand and AVS/Express Developer will not provide services after April 2025.
・Large-format printer (Depending on the type and number of sheets of paper, additional charges will apply. There is no change to the usage fee.)
* Due to the replacement of large-format printers, even users who have continued using the same user number will need to re-register their accounts on the output terminals. Please understand that this re-registration process will require some time on your first visit.

・Supercomputer
・Application server
・Research cloud (There will be no general use applications accepted this fiscal year.)

Also, regarding the billing period, it was previously set for early July for the April to June period, but it will be changed to early October.

The application for continued use of Large-scale Computing System follows the below.
1. Application for continued use of user number → 2. Application for continued use of additional services
It is not uncommon to find people who apply only for 1. but not for 2., so please be careful not to forget to apply for 2. if you wish to continue using additional services.
Please note that for this fiscal year’s renewal application, “2. Application for continued use of additional services” will only be accepted for cloud storage (Nextcloud).
(*) Security Export Control Procedures
To continue to use Large-scale Computing System in the following fiscal year, security export control procedures may be required if any of the following items apply to you.
・Affiliation: Outside Japan
・Nationality: Non-Japanese
・Residency: Overseas resident (defined as “non-resident” under the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Law)
・Specific category: the following three items
・Specific Category 1: Person under the control of a foreign government, corporation or university by contract
・Specific Category 2: Person substantially under the control of foreign government by economic interests
・Specific Category 3: Person acting in Japan under instructions of a foreign government
Even if you have completed the procedures in the past, it may take some time to complete the procedures for the following fiscal year.
(1) Who can apply?
Users whose expiration date is March 31, 2025
When you log in to Hokkaido University Information Initiative Center User Administration Portal(hereinafter referred to as “portal”) , only the user numbers that can be applied for continued use are displayed after the following steps.
“Continuation application” on the menu bar -> “User number continuation application for next fiscal year”.
(2) Application method
Please apply using either 1) or 2) below.
1) Online
This procedure is recommended if you do not need to change the registration information or only need to make minor changes such as telephone number or source of payment.
Log in to the portal and perform the following steps.
In addition, when applying online, do not forget to complete the “Payment manager’s approval.” (However, this procedure is not required if you are the payment manager.)
Use the following steps to complete the payment manager’s approval.
2) Application form
This procedure is recommended if you need to make complicated changes, such as changing the payment manager.
*Depending on the change, we may contact you for confirmation.
If you wish to apply using the form, please follow the steps below to download and fill out the form, then submit it to User Reception Desk by email.
For additional services such as Supercomputer and Cloud, the users must apply online.
If you have applied for continued use of user number using the form, you will receive an email titled “Notification of Registration Completion (Hokkaido University Information Initiative Center)” when your application for a user number is approved. Then you will be able to apply to continue the additional services on the portal.
(3) Notes on application with changes
Items that can be changed online

Zip code and address
For items that cannot be changed online, download a PDF file and write the changes in red ink outside the columns. You do not need to stamp your seal to the form. In principle, user numbers cannot be transferred to other persons.
(4) Application for continued use of specific computing resources

(5) Payment manager
The payment manager registration number (ex: u99999A) assigned to the payment manager will be automatically continued to the next fiscal year.
However, if the payment manager for the next fiscal year will change (due to retirement, relocation, etc.), you may be required to follow the necessary procedures. Contact us at the contact information listed at the end of this page.
(6) If you do not continue to use
You do not need to do anything.
