Research grant use
The interdisciplinary large-scale computer system offers normal service charge-based use as well as open-type use in the following ways.
HPCI (Innovative High-Performance Computing Infrastructure)
HPCI is a shared computational environment that connects the flagship “Fugaku” and other major supercomputers as well as storage in Japan via a high-speed network (SINET6).

JHPCN (Joint Usage/Research Center for Interdisciplinary Large-scale Information Infrastructures)
The Joint Usage/Research Center for Interdisciplinary Large-scale Information Infrastructures is a center formed by eight universities (Hokkaido University, Tohoku University, the University of Tokyo, Institute of Science Tokyo, Nagoya University, Kyoto University, Osaka University, Kyushu University) equipped with supercomputers. It is a network for shared use/joint research, with the Information Technology Center of the University of Tokyo serving as the core of the system.
It is accredited by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and began full-scale operation from April 2010.
Starting in academic year 2013, as part of the computer system (HPCI system) of the Innovative High-Performance Computing Infrastructure (HPCI), the computer systems (HPCI-JHPCN system) provided by these sites are used as resources for joint research.
In addition, new projects in international joint research, corporate joint research, and seminal joint research have been added since academic year 2016 to enhance the globalization, industry-university collaboration and incubation functions.

Seminal shared use/joint research at Hokkaido University Information Initiative Center
Hokkaido University Information Initiative Center is a center formed by eight universities (Hokkaido University, Tohoku University, the University of Tokyo, Institute of Science Tokyo, Nagoya University, Kyoto University, Osaka University, Kyushu University) equipped with supercomputers. It is a network for shared use/joint research accredited by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Full-scale operation began from April 2010 as the Joint Usage/Research Center for Interdisciplinary Large-scale Information Infrastructures.
The Information Initiative Center has conducted its own open-type joint research in addition to the open-type joint research it conducts as a JHPCN base. The Information Initiative Center is playing a central role in the implementation of grand challenge-type research using information infrastructure and interdisciplinary shared use/joint research for promotion.
