2025.07.23Nextcloud introduced two-factor authentication (July 23 ~)

The cloud storage service (Nextcloud) introduced two-factor authentication (TOTP) of login for security enhancement after periodic maintenance on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.

The login process and the configuration of client applications have been modified from the previous methods due to the implementation of two-factor authentication. Please take note.

One-time password (authentication code) by Authenticator is required when logging in to Nextcloud

When you enter your ID/password at the first login, you will be required to register the Authenticator app, so please prepare the Authenticator app for your smartphone in advance.

* After logging in, please create backup codes and store them in a safe place in case the Authenticator becomes unavailable. You can generate the backup codes by clicking the “Generate backup codes” button in the security menu of the settings after logging in to Nextcloud.

Authentication with “App Password” is necessary for apps that are linked to Nextcloud

When you work with a client app or GakuNin RDM, you need to authenticate with an app password created by Nextcloud.
You can create the app password by clicking the “Create new app password” button in the security menu of the settings after logging in to Nextcloud.

* You can create multiple app passwords, and you can disable them individually from Nextcloud. If you share the same app password with multiple devices, you will need to reconfigure all of them in case of loss, theft, etc., therefore it is recommended to create and set it individually for each device.
