1970年3月福岡生、1995年3月東京大学大学院人文科学研究科東洋史学専攻修士課程修了、1996年3月東京大学大学院人文社会系研究科アジア文化研究専攻博士課程退学、1996年4月東京大学東洋文化研究所西アジア部門助手を経て、2001年4月北海道大学大学院文学研究科東洋史学講座助教授となり、現在に至る。
